Quarterly Update

So I've been really terrible about keeping this thing up to date. I've linked the video library and photos directly here, because I do post new photos and some video more frequently than I get around to writing.

Looking back over my calendar since the last post, I can fill you in a little:

In January, Tye got neutered, Terri got busy with the Post 10 bylaws, and attended our Northern Region JROTC Drill Competition in Bealeton.

February, Terri ran the Legion District 16 Oratorical Contest and did a great job of it. I visited Post 290 in Stafford for the "Four Chaplains" and "Post Everlasting" ceremonies. Jason had District Honors Choir, which Mike and Annie were able to attend. Toward the end of the month I spent 10 days or so (going into March) up at Mike & Annie's house watching the dogs, and the latest addition, Roscoe the Maine Coon cat.

March brought Terri and I marching in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Manassas. Jason made a trip to Orlando with his Vocal Ensemble to perform for the National Board of Education (I think) while Terri, Sam, and I went to the Legion Dept. of Virginia Spring Conference.

April, so far, has taken Jason to Nashville with his school choir groups, and me chaperoning. This was a cool trip, and I have a lot of photos, but you'll have to ask for the link to protect the kids. They got to sing at the Ryman Auditorium and cut CDs at Studio B, where Elvis cut more than half of his hits. I made another trip to Walter Reed, and yesterday Sam and I helped out with an Honor Flight.

So now about Honor Flight. You can read about the organization and it's mission on the link there, so I won't go into details. What I do want to talk about a little bit is Bob Dole's involvement in the WWII Memorial and with these groups of WWII veterans that come in.

Senator Dole was instrumental in getting this important memorial funded and built. Now, he visits almost every weekend while Honor Flight operates flights. He spends at least a couple hours at a time greeting fellow WWII veterans, taking time to speak with each one that wants to meet him, posing for pictures, and welcoming them to their memorial. I was honored to meet him and talked him into posing for a picture with those of us that were there to help. Pictured above are (left to right) Dept. of Virginia S.A.L. Commander Scott Williams, Dist. 16 Adjutant Bob Brady, Sam, Me, Dist. 17 S.A.L. Commander Chip, (can't recall his last name at the moment) Senator Bob Dole, Dist. 16 Honor Flight Chairman Jay Wilson, Dist. 16 Vice Commander Dave Stein, Dist. 16 Senior Vice Commander Charlie King, and Dist. 16 Commander Danny Jones.
