Syracuse
Coming to you live, from Syracuse, New York, it's...Sunday morning.
Terri's company, Syracuse Research Corporation, is celebrating it's 50th year. So they decided to invite all of their employees and a guest to come and visit the "home office" and join in the celebration. Even though she hasn't been with the company very long, she has worked with quite a few of the folks from the Chantilly office for several years. So off to Syracuse we went.
We came in on Friday, which was our 17th anniversary. We flew in with Joe and Lori, a wonderful couple that we've gotten to know through Jay and Gail. Greg and his wife Cris were on the flight as well, rounding out the people that I had any familiarity with. I did get to put faces to several names though. The flight was short, and we were picked up by a nice comfy bus for the short ride to the hotels. The company booked rooms in 3 different hotels.
OK, I need to slow down and not get too detailed here. I didn't do my normal research before we came, so I didn't know much about the town. It's a little bigger than I had pictured, and the downtown area is pretty neat with lots of small businesses and pubs. Really cool Irish pubs with board games and darts and 20+ beers on tap.
Friday afternoon we got to tour the company headquarters and learn more about what they do. This was kinda cool because they are quite diverse from the field that Terri works in.
The company treated us to way too much food and transportation to and from everything. On Friday night there was a big open air "Taste of Syracuse" which featured food from at least 8 different vendors, live entertainment, and an open museum. Saturday night was a semi-formal gala with food and an open bar. I behaved myself, thinking we were going to go downtown. Between the bus not running like we were told, and tired people, we never made it downtown.
Anyway, I'm sitting here in the hotel waiting on transportation back to the airport. We should get back home around 4, and it's going to be like 20 degrees hotter than it is here right now. Blah.
I'm hoping that things will settle down some after this trip. So far the summer is passing without any breaks, and it's starting to wear on me. We've got a couple of things scheduled in August, but I think we'll manage. I haven't got the boat in the water yet, which is a little frustrating. I guess it beats not having anything to do though, the time with kids being home is going fast this year.
