So 39 ain't so bad...
My birthday came and went without too much fanfare, and except for a knee that's giving me some trouble, I don't feel any older.
So last night I skipped bowling to go to Sam's winter concert. Terri will make Jason's, and then we'll switch up in the spring. So I'm waiting to enter the gym, where they are singing, and I'm listening to parents talk. I was dumbfounded. Parents complaining about "having to come" to see their kids perform! I know that there's been things the kids have done when I've had something else that I'd rather be doing, but not often. There was one lady talking about how she could be at home watching TV and eating nachos. I think that's just pathetic. At this age, the kids are really starting to develop talent. They are setting the first steps in place where they can pursue competitive ventures, where successful auditions can lead them to All County and higher level choirs. To think that some poor kid's mother would rather be eating nachos is sickening.
And yes, I know a joke when I hear one, and this bitch was genuinely annoyed to be there.
I enjoyed the concert, the music selection was varied, and the kids sounded pretty good.
I'm trying to get the house in some sort of condition to celebrate Christmas. The kids have been told that we're doing "Christmas-Lite" this year, since we're taking them to Hawaii for spring break. There's just been so much going on that we're nowhere near having a tree up yet. I'm hoping to have that done before Saturday, when Terri and I leave for Williamsburg. Mom is taking care of the kids, a task that may be more than she thinks. It looks like Mark and his girlfriend Adrian will be joining us for the first weekend, and Chris may ride down with them, or may come down Monday-Tuesday. Other than that, we're on our own this year. I'm looking forward to the time with Terri, even though we have nothing in particular planned.
I'll see about getting some pictures up from the parade last weekend. I have a few nice pictures, and I'm awaiting permission to use some that our friend Gail took. Will try to get those posted before the weekend.
